Xtion Live Pro - Start and stop constantly

Hi,

I can’t make NI mate works with my new Xtion Live Pro device …
Here is my log :

Do anybody have an idea to my problem ?

Thank you very much

  • Could you try enabling the USB3 mode in the NI mate preferences?
  • In Device Manager, could you try changing the used driver for the sensor? Do this by going to “update driver”, then “select from list” and use the one that gives a warning about the driver being unsigned.
  • Does the sensor work in a different USB port?

#3

I did try those settings yes, it wasn’t working, I’m reinstalling Windows because of USB port error while trying to reinstall NI MATE
I’ll keep you informed
thank you!

#4

So my sensor is working with Faceshift but not with Ni Mate,
Sometimes it runs for a couple of seconds and then shutdown like before …

Is it me ? I’m doing something wrong ?

Thank you again

#5

Faceshift might not use OpenNI2 as NI mate does, so it’s possible the issue is related to that, although I don’t know of other libraries capable of accessing XTion Pro Live.

I’m not sure where to investigate this apart from trying the sensor + NI mate on a different computer. The Xtion Pro Live is among the most robust sensors NI mate supports and is the model we’ve had the least amount of trouble with.

There is a firmware update for the sensor which improved its USB3 support - you could try installing that and see if the problem goes away. However, this is very much done at your own risk. The firmware patch isn’t available anywhere officially after Apple’s acquisition of PrimeSense, but we have a copy of it here: https://ni-mate.com/release/firmware/FW579-RD1081-112v2.zip

Faceshift, NITE samples and Primesense samples are working but NI MATE stop, I don’t know what shut it down, but something is wrong …
I did try with another computer, same problem …
I shutdown internet + firewall, still not working. I did reinstall windows completely … nothing

I don’t know what to try, but something on windows 10 block NI MATE, I’m sure…

Here is the link for OpenNI/NITE samples :

Isn’t it related to the Qt problem related at the begining of the log ?

It also says some time :

Error while trying to draw live view: 1281

#8

I did succeed to make it work more than 3 sec after the shutdown, here is what i did :

  1. set the resolution of Windows to 800x600
  2. launch ni mate with the live feed set to 160x120
  3. USB 3 mode
  4. Disable GPU transfer

If it can help anybody

I’m very sorry to have so much trouble to run NI MATE

My config is this one : https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS63VR-7RG-Stealth-Pro/Specification

#9

It’s strange that reducing the resolutions would make the sensor work. The problems are most likely related, somehow, to USB, not the graphics card. However, if you don’t require the live feeds, they can be disabled entirely from the settings.

#10

I tried by disabling the live feeds … crash again, I don’t know what else I can try …
Anyway I figured that iPi Software are working just fine, so I’m going to use that instead. Even if there isn’t an integration with blender…

Thank you again for your patience Jesse.

C.

PS : I’ve only tried on laptop computer.

EDITED: In fact, if I have any process running in the background, ni mate works just fine.
But, if all of my hardware (CPU or GPU or Data) is on idle, ni mate stop immediately

News !

I’ve found that if Drive File Stream is running (with something that is being downloaded), Ni Mate works for 30 sec !
If I pause or close the Drive File Stream, Ni Mate can’t run and stop instantly.

More info : I’ve my Drive File Stream setup to the D: drive also with the Folders shown in the screenshot below.

If you have any new idea about how to solve my problem I would really appreciate.
Have a great week-end.

Just got a Xtion Live Pro and after a lot of experimenting and trying out cperez “not working while idle” theory i found a way to get mine working through a very inefficient workaround:

-You launch Prime95 (A CPU Stress testing tool) with the “Small FFT” torture test (the other two dont work for me)
-Afterwards you launch Ni Mate normally.

I don’t know how or why overloading your CPU makes it work but it does for me.
I would be interrested in why this happens and if this approach works for any other users.

Cool, thank you Flam, I’ll try it out !
